what you need to know about Facelifts - Dr. Beverly Fischer - Timonium, MD

Interested in getting a facelift from The Advanced Center for Plastic Surgery? You’re not alone! A facelift is the best way to tighten up sagging or wrinkly skin, and restore a more youthful, beautiful appearance.

By removing excess skin and tightening the facial muscles, you can look nearly 10 years younger – with just one simple procedure! However, some people are still nervous about plastic surgery, and you may be worried that the procedure is unsafe.

But you don’t have to worry. If you’re nervous about a facelift, we can put you at ease. Here are just a few of the reasons that you shouldn’t be worried about getting a facelift.

Facelifts Are Totally Common – And Safe!

Over 126,000 facelifts were performed in 2012 alone. Facelifts are one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures, alongside other surgeries such as liposuction and rhinoplasty/nose reshaping.

This means that the procedure for facelift surgery is well-established. At our plastic surgery center, Dr. Beverly Fischer has performed more facelifts in one year than most plastic surgeons complete during their entire career. With her perfected facelift technique and warm bedside manner, you can rest assured that you are in good hands.

Recovery Only Takes About A Week

Recovery time may be a concern for you. How long will it take you to get back to your normal life after getting a facelift?

The answer? About a week – and sometimes, even less! Advanced mini facelifts, like Dr. Fischer's UpLyft facelift, requires no general anesthesia and is minimally invasive, so there is little healing that must take place post-operation. In fact, you can usually resume normal day-to-day activities within a single day of your procedure.

After about a week, the majority of bruising and swelling will be dramatically reduced. And within about two weeks, you’ll be able to have any remaining stitches or sutures removed, and you can even get back to activities such as exercising!

While scarring and some other side effects may remain for a bit longer, the overall recovery time for a facelift is quite low!

No General Anesthesia Required

Nowadays, most facelifts can be performed under only local anesthetics with numbing agents and oral sedation. This helps mitigate any anxiety you may have about undergoing a surgery that requires general anesthesia and nervousness about being "put under."

Post-Operative Discomfort Is Minimal

Usually, you’ll experience very minimal pain or discomfort after the operation has been completed. You may feel some discomfort in areas where the skin has been cut, as well as bruising or swelling.

The majority of uncomfortable side-effects resolve completely within about two weeks, and prescription medication can be used to treat pain and discomfort. After about a month, your face will feel almost completely normal!
