CO2 Laser

In Timonium, Maryland

Finally say goodbye to scars, wrinkles, and dark spots with the extraordinary CO2 laser treatment we offer at The Advanced Center for Plastic Surgery in Baltimore! By using this innovative laser technology, you can finally achieve the beautiful, flawless skin you desire.

What is CO2 Laser Treatment?

Carbon dioxide laser (CO2 laser) treatment uses pulses of laser light to treat sun damage, wrinkles, scars, warts, birthmarks, and other skin blemishes with only a few treatment sessions.

How does it work? When the laser hits the skin, the water within the skin absorbs the laser energy, heats up, and vaporizes the top layers of skin. This kickstarts the body’s natural healing processes without damaging surrounding areas. It also heats up the dermis below to stimulate collagen production.

As the skin heals, your old skin will be replaced with a firmer and smoother complexion!

Candidates for CO2 Laser Treatment

Some of the criteria we look for in ideal candidates in Baltimore for CO2 laser treatment include the following:

  • Those with fairer skin tones
  • Those struggling with dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, scars, sun damage, or other surface concerns
  • In generally good health
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Have enough time to recover from treatment

CO2 Laser Procedure

CO2 laser treatment is a nonsurgical outpatient procedure that can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the size of the treatment area and the extent of the skin issue.

To start the treatment, we’ll apply a local anesthetic to the treatment area to ensure you’re completely comfortable. From there, one of our experienced team members will cleanse your skin and give you eyewear to protect your eyes.

From there, your provider will move the CO2 laser wand over the treatment area. And that’s it! Treatment is relatively simple, and you can go back home immediately afterward.

CO2 Laser Treatments Recovery & Results

After your laser treatment, you can apply an ice pack to the treatment area in 15-minute increments to help with any swelling. You will likely also see some redness, but that will diminish as you heal. You’ll also be given an antibacterial cream and dressing to apply to the skin. You’ll want to use these for at least 24 hours.

As you heal, you’ll want to apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more regularly to protect your skin. You’ll also want to liberally apply moisturizer. As for other skincare, you will need to avoid Retin-A and glycolic acid products for at least six weeks after treatment. Additionally, avoid excess sun exposure for at least four weeks.

In general, it takes about 1-3 weeks for the skin to fully heal. You may notice some results in the first week, but most significant results will take several weeks to show as collagen builds up in your skin.

What conditions can CO2 laser resurfacing treat?

CO2 laser resurfacing treatments can address a variety of skin conditions. Common conditions treated with CO2 laser devices include wrinkles, photodamage, scars, warts, birthmarks, and enlarged pores.

What does CO2 lasering feel like?

CO2 laser resurfacing treatments can be mildly uncomfortable, but we will apply a local numbing agent before your treatment starts. Many patients describe the sensation as a rubber band snapping against their skin or pins and needles.

Does CO2 Laser resurfacing hurt?

General anesthesia is needed for the treatment of the full face CO2 laser resurfacing. Afterwards, there can be slight discomfort, often times feeling like an extreme sunburn. All side effects rangr from mild to moderate, depending on the depth of the treatment. In some cases, local anesthesia can just used for treatment just around the mouth.
