Many patients come into our office looking to remove excess skin and fat from their arms. An arm lift is likely the perfect solution if you’re struggling with similar issues. It not only can remove excess skin and fat, but with the latest techniques, Dr. Fischer can also tighten and tone your arms to give you the sculpted look you desire.
What is an Arm Lift?
An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure used to reduce excess sagging skin, tighten and smooth the tissue and muscles in the arm, and remove unwanted pockets of fat.
Whether due to weight changes, aging, or simply genetics, if your upper arms are sagging or drooping, an arm lift can give you the beautiful, sculpted arms you’ve always wanted.
Candidates for an Arm Lift
In general, ideal candidates for an arm lift meet the following criteria:
- Adults with significant sagging or drooping skin on their upper arms
- Those who are at a stable weight
- Individuals in good overall health
- Those with realistic expectations
- No medical conditions that could interfere with the healing process
- Nonsmokers
Arm Lift Procedure
Your arm lift or brachioplasty procedure will begin with the administration of general anesthesia. Once that sets in, Dr. Fischer will make an incision in each arm. The length of the incision and the pattern will depend on how much skin and fat need to be removed and the results you’re looking for.
Dr. Fischer generally places the incision on the inside or back of the arm, and it can extend to the underarm area and just above the elbow. Once the incision is made, she’ll excise the excess tissue and either excise the fat as well or use liposuction to remove it.
Arm Lift Recovery
During your recovery from arm lift surgery, dressings or bandages will be applied to your incisions, and your arms will be wrapped in a compression garment to minimize swelling and support healing. Dr. Fischer will give you detailed aftercare instructions on how best to take care of your incisions and dressing and what to avoid.
You will likely experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Your compression garment will help with the swelling and bruising, and Dr. Fischer will prescribe pain medication to ensure you’re completely comfortable as you heal.
You’ll want to take at least a week off work to recover, and it will take 4-6 weeks before you can return to strenuous activities and your normal activity level.
Arm Lift Results
You will likely notice some initial results of your arm lift immediately after surgery, as the excess skin and fat will be gone. That said, the swelling and bruising resulting from surgery will hide some of the results. You see the final results as those side effects fade in the weeks and months after surgery.
