Whether due to weight loss, genetics, or because they simply haven’t had any luck with diet and exercise, many people struggle with excess skin on their thighs. At the Advanced Center for Plastic Surgery in Baltimore, Dr. Fischer can give you the beautiful, shapely thighs you deserve.
What is a Thigh Lift?
A thigh lift, or thighplasty, reshapes the thighs by removing excess skin and fat, leaving you with smoother, firmer, and better-proportioned thighs.
Candidates for a Thigh Lift
In general, ideal candidates for a thigh lift in Baltimore meet the following criteria:
- At a stable weight
- Have excess skin and fat (or cellulite) around the inner and outer thigh you want removed
- Have no medical conditions that could affect the healing process
- Nonsmokers
- Have realistic expectations of the results
- Committed to a healthy lifestyle to maintain your results
Thigh Lift Procedure
What occurs during your thigh lift in Baltimore depends on your areas of concern and the results you’re looking for. The options include an inner thigh lift, outer thigh lift, or vertical thigh lift.
The inner thigh lift includes an incision near the inner crease of the leg (along the bikini line), followed by skin removal and lift to tighten the skin on both sides of the leg.
An outer thigh lift is similar, but your incision will extend from the groin area around the hip so that skin can be removed and tightened around the outer thigh area. A vertical thighplasty is not as common, but when done, a wedge of tissue is removed, and the remaining skin is tightened. We often don’t use this final method because it can leave a more visible scar as the incision goes down the inside of the leg.
No matter what incision we use, the procedure will start with the administration of general anesthesia. Once that kicks in, the appropriate incision will be made, and the excess tissue and fat will be removed. The skin and muscles will be tightened, and the incisions will be closed.
Thigh Lift Recovery
Following the procedure, you will likely experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. We will provide a compression garment to help the swelling, and Dr. Fischer will prescribe pain medication to help with any discomfort. You will want to wear your compression garment for at least six weeks.
You’ll need one to two weeks of downtime before returning to work and your normal routine. You’ll need to avoid more strenuous activities for several weeks more. Full recovery typically takes 4-6 weeks. During this time, you’ll need to keep your incisions clean and covered, get plenty of rest, and follow Dr. Fischer’s aftercare instructions.
Any visible scars will fade over time and should be almost invisible within a year.
Thigh Lift Results
The initial results of a thigh lift are visible almost immediately. However, the full results won’t be obvious due to the swelling and bruising present after surgery. As those side effects diminish over the weeks and months of recovery, your final results and new thigh shape will become fully visible. It typically takes six months before you can see the full results.
