It’s not unusual for our bodies to change as we age, and often, our faces are the first place to show signs of aging like wrinkles, laxity, and sagging. While you’re probably familiar with the use of injectables like Botox or Dysport to improve the appearance of wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes, you may not realize that there are similar treatments that can help thinning lips to look fuller and more plump.

If you’re not interested in surgical procedures to produce a fuller pout, and you’re worried that fillers may not provide the subtle improvement you prefer, you’ll be happy to learn that there’s a non-surgical and minimally-invasive alternative: the Lip Flip.

What is the Lip Flip?

The lip flip is a treatment that involves injecting Dysport, an injectable similar to Botox, into the muscle just above the upper lip. This will cause the muscle to relax temporarily, and the upper lip to roll slightly outward. The result is an upper lip that looks slightly fuller and more defined, but that’s still completely natural when you talk, smile, and move your mouth. A Dysport or Botox lip flip simply amplifies your natural shape and pout, while also allowing a natural look to your lips.

In addition, this treatment will help to smooth any tiny lines that can form around the upper lip and contribute to the look of aging. The lip flip is not designed to add volume to the lips, unlike fillers.  If you’re simply looking for a subtle improvement that refreshes and rejuvenates your smile, the lip flip is a great option.

What Makes Dysport Better than Botox for a Lip Flip?

Dysport and Botox are very similar products with very similar benefits, so you may not know what makes one better than another. Both are easy to administer in the office setting by a nurse or doctor, with procedures typically taking just about ten minutes to complete, and patients are allowed to return to normal activities immediately after.

For a lip flip, patients are able to leave our office shortly after their procedure and can continue on with their day. There may be swelling and numbness after and results will be seen within a few days. So, what makes Dysport better for a lip flip? It really comes down to instant gratification. With Dysport, you’ll see results within a couple of days. Botox, on the other hand, could take up to a week or more to show improvement – sometimes up to a month after treatment. If you want speedy results, Dysport is the clear choice when deciding on what injectable to utilize for your lip flip. Dr. Beverly Fischer and her team are happy to go over the options and details during your consultation.

How Long Does the Lip Flip Last?

Dysport injections should last at least 3-4 months after treatment.

Who’s a Good Candidate for Treatment?

In order to be a good candidate for the lip flip procedure, you must be in good health and you should not have a history of sensitivity to botulinum toxin treatments.

The lip flip procedure is ideal for anyone with a thinning upper lip and/or upper lip wrinkling who is interested in a fuller, more natural looking lip. If you’re considering fillers, the lip flip is a great way to get an idea of what you might look like with more fullness, before you commit to the effects of fillers or to simply smooth out fine lines around your mouth and lips.

Lip Flip Cost

The cost of the Dysport lip flip treatment is around $250. Lip fillers could cost significantly more, so the lip flip procedure is an affordable way to get an idea of whether or not you like your new look before you commit to fillers.
