5 Questions You NEED To Ask At Your Plastic Surgery Consultation

Not sure what questions to ask at your appointment? It’s a great idea to schedule a plastic surgery consultation with an experienced cosmetic surgeon, such as those at the Dr. Beverly Fischer, MD Advanced Center for Plastic Surgery. . . During this consultation, you can examine your cosmetic surgery options, and get answers to any questions you might have. Here’s our advice on what to ask when you’re going through a plastic surgery consultation!.

How Many Times Have You Performed This Procedure?

At the Dr. Beverly Fischer Center, our cosmetic surgeons have years of experience performing all common cosmetic surgery procedures. But this is still a good question to ask.

Learning about your prospective doctor’s level of experience is always a good thing. It can help you overcome nervousness about your procedure – and ensure that you’ve picked a professional, board-certified plastic surgeon!

What Type Of Anesthesia Is Recommended For My Procedure?

Some plastic surgery procedures can be performed under local anesthetic only. Minor facelifts are an example of this – they usually do not require general anesthesia.

However, other more invasive procedures, such as tummy tucks, almost always require general anesthesia, and some procedures can be performed either under local anesthetic, or under general anesthesia.

It’s best to discuss what’s best with your doctor, and get a recommendation for what type of anesthesia should be used throughout your cosmetic surgery procedure.

What Do I Need To Do Before My Procedure?

Depending on your procedure, there are certain steps you should take during the days/weeks that lead up to your procedure.

For example, if you are undergoing a facelift, you’ll need to discontinue medications like NSAIDs, aspirins, and other blood thinners, to ensure that bleeding is minimal throughout the procedure. And if you’re going under a general anesthetic, you’ll need to avoid eating for at least 6 hours before your surgery.

Your doctor can fill you in on other prerequisite steps that you’ll need to take before your procedure.

What Kind Of Recovery Time Can I Expect?

This is a very important question to ask. Different cosmetic surgeries require vastly different recovery times. If you undergo breast augmentation or facelift, for example, you may be able to resume most normal activities within a day or two.

However, a tummy tuck can require as much as two weeks to recover. In addition, the specifics of how long recovery will take may vary, based on the surgeries you’re undergoing, your personal level of health, and your medical history.

How Much Will My Procedure Cost Altogether?

Don’t be afraid to ask for a cost estimate when undergoing a plastic surgery consultation. Since your procedure is likely elective, you’ll be paying for it yourself – and you deserve to know how much you’ll have to pay.

It’s likely that you’ll get similar estimates from each plastic surgeon you visit. But getting a cost estimate is still a great idea, because it can help you determine whether or not plastic surgery is worth the investment, or if you should explore alternative beauty treatments.
