A deep plane facelift is a type of facelift that is designed to reposition tissue, release ligaments, and remodel the face to give you a younger, natural-looking, and radiant appearance. But at The Advanced Center for Plastic Surgery in Baltimore, we do something a little different. We provide the Elevate facelift, which is done under local anesthesia, allowing you to get back to your life much quicker.
What is an Elevate Facelift?
Elevate is a type of deep plane facelift in which the tissues and underlying muscles are manipulated and reshaped. It is typically done because the results last longer than those of the more traditional facelift.
While many practices offer a deep plane facelift, our Elevate facelift in Baltimore is different because we perform it under local anesthesia. This means you’re awake but comfortable during the procedure. More specifically, you’ll be given Valium to relax you.
If you’re noticing sagging skin and wrinkles in the middle of your face, marionette lines, jowls, and even a double chin, the Elevate Facelift can help smooth your skin for a refreshed and more youthful look. This technique always includes a neck lift with platysma muscle repair for optimal results.
The Elevate Facelift in Baltimore is also more natural-looking because Dr. Fischer can maneuver underlying tissue to achieve greater precision and does not need to pull tissues as tightly. With the Elevate facelift, we can also move cheek pads to create a more prominent lift in the middle of the face for more contoured cheekbones.
Candidates for an Elevate Facelift
While patients in their 30s, 40s, and 50s typically come into our Baltimore office for an Elevate facelift, there is no age limit to the procedure. That said, the best way to determine whether you’re a good candidate for an Elevate facelift is by coming in for a consultation with Dr. Fischer. She’ll ask you questions to determine if you are an ideal candidate for this innovative procedure. Some of the criteria she’ll look for includes the following:
- Nonsmokers
- Those without medical conditions that could negatively affect the healing process
- Anyone struggling with lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, jowls, decreased skin elasticity, or more.
- Those who are generally health
- Not taking any blood thinners
Elevate Facelift Procedure
The Elevate facelift will start with the administration of local anesthesia. We’ll give you Valium to gently relax you. One that kicks in. Dr. Fisher will begin by making incisions around your hairline, ears, and neck so she can access your facial muscles, underlying tissues, and cheek pads. This incision is designed to minimize facial scars.
The facial and neck skin is then separated from deeper tissues, allowing Dr. Fischer to visualize the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system), which is made up of elastin, collagen, and fat cells and extends from your forehead to your neck. By lifting and shaping the SMAS and your underlying muscles, Dr. Fischer can give you the results you’re looking for.
Once everything is lifted and secured, she will close your incisions, and you’ll be ready to start the recovery process.
Elevate Facelift Recovery
The initial recovery process after an Elevate facelift takes about one to two weeks. You’ll likely notice some swelling, mild discomfort, and minor bruising, but that’s about it. You’ll want to rest and relax for the first few days after surgery and limit your activities for several weeks to help reduce swelling and reduce the risk of excessive bleeding.
Dr. Fischer will also provide you with aftercare instructions you’ll want to follow to limit the possibility of any complications. We’ll provide a compression garment that you’ll need to wear for the first one to two weeks to help with swelling. A drain will also be placed near the incisions to help catch any excess fluid.
The time frame for when you can return to work depends on how well you are recovering and the type of job you have.
Elevate Facelift Results
You may see some initial results from your Elevate facelift immediately after the procedure, but it will take several weeks and months to see the final results as your swelling and bruising diminish.
