Neck Lift Recovery: Tips for a Smooth Healing Journey

Neck Lift

unnamed (57)If you’ve been feeling like you want to hide your neck behind a scarf or under a
turtleneck, you’re not alone. Neck lifts eliminate turkey wattle and sagging skin to help
resculpt the neck area for a smoother and more youthful appearance, often bringing it
more in line with your face and creating a consistent look. Neck lifts are relatively quick
and require only a two to four-week recovery period, short for the transformation they
can achieve. No wonder they are a popular procedure!

Why Get A Neck Lift

There are several reasons why patients seek neck lifts. They eliminate loose skin and
tighten muscles that have given way to age. They can also smooth skin back to a more
attractive silhouette of the jowl line after weight loss or reduce the dreaded double chin.
Neck lifting expertly addresses both issues with a streamlined process whereby a
surgeon will sculpt neck tissues under the skin, tightening neck muscles, and possibly
moving fat from other spots in the neck and jowls with liposuction. They will reduce
excess skin and then pull it to create a beautiful contour. Scars are minimal and hidden
behind the ear and under the chin.

How to Have a Great Recovery

Recovery is minimal too. After the procedure, you’ll be outfitted with a facial support
band to keep your neck and face from any additional swelling and bruising. Finally,
you’ll get detailed instructions to ensure that your recovery is smooth and seamless.
While you’ll notice that the swelling and bruising has dissipated by four to six weeks,
patients usually resume their work and driving schedules after just one week or sooner.
Any small scars usually fade within six months to a year.

Make sure to follow these important tips for an optimal recovery:

1. Sleep With Your Head Elevated: Although it takes a little getting used to, it’s
important to have your head elevated while you sleep so that you can help
manage swelling and bruising. Keeping your head above your heart helps with
this.

2. Keep It Cool: Cool compresses are helpful for the first 24 to 48 hours after the
procedure to help with pain and swelling.

3. Manage Your Pain: Use cool compresses 24 to 48 hours after surgery, and
prescribed pain medication or over-the-counter medications (ibuprofen or
acetaminophen).

4. Take It Easy: We recommend no hard exercises like heavy lifting, pushing, or
pulling for up to four weeks.

5. Rest Up: As with all recoveries, it's essential to get at least 7-9 hours of sleep
and also rest during the day when you feel you need it.

6. Invite a Friend: Close friends can help aid your recovery. Do not clean or cook
for them; just welcome them in to enjoy their company!

7. Follow-Up: Don’t forget to follow up with your surgeon and attend any
appointments they set up so they can track your progress.
