What is a Facelift?

A facelift is a surgical procedure that is designed to tighten loose skin and muscles, and remove excess skin in the face, which gives patients a younger-looking appearance.  At The Advanced Center for Plastic Surgery, we offer a traditional facelift and an Elevate Facelift. Our traditional facelift is a deep plane lift done under general anesthesia & our Elevate Facelift is done under local/PO sedation.  It includes all of the same techniques as our traditional facelift but without general anesthesia.

After a thorough consultation, Dr. Fischer will determine the right facelift options for your needs.

What is the benefit of Elevate Facelift vs. Traditional Facelift?

The Elevate Facelift is simply a Traditional Facelift that is done without general anesthesia. Dr. Fischer has mastered her Elevate Facelift approach with a combination of oral sedation and diluted numbing injections that produce a seamless outcome for patients. The benefits of this can include less time recovering from general anesthesia, financial benefits, not having to be without food or water the night prior/day of surgery, and depending on each patient individually, no pre-op clearance is needed. If you have further questions regarding our Elevate Facelift advantages, please give our office a call today.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Facelift?

It’s an optimal treatment for men and women struggling with loose facial skin, sagging, jowls, excess skin, and dropped cheeks. Following a comprehensive review of your medical history, Dr. Fischer and her team will determine if you are an ideal candidate for a facelift.

Facelift Procedure

During your facelift procedure at the Advanced Center For Plastic Surgery in Baltimore, if you have opted for a traditional facelift, general anesthesia will be administered. For the Elevate Facelift, local anesthesia and oral sedation will be administered before any incisions are made.

Regardless of which anesthesia you decide, Dr. Fischer will use precise techniques to remove excess skin, tighten the underlying tissues and muscles, and address the jowls and neck. You will wake up in recovery at our fully accredited surgical center in Timonium, MD, and be able to go home the same day.

Facelift Recovery

After your facelift, it is possible to experience bruising, swelling, and tenderness. These side effects can be expected and will subside in the coming weeks. You will have a large soft head dressing for the first night which Dr. Fischer and her team will take off the next morning at your follow-up appointment. At the appointment, you will be given a smaller less bulky head garment that will be worn for the next week. The garment can be taken off 48 hours after surgery for you to shower.

During the first few weeks following your surgery, it is important to avoid strenuous activities, get ample rest, and remember to elevate your head while lying down. Most patients feel comfortable going out in public after 1-2 weeks, and you should start feeling back to yourself around the 2-3 week mark.
