Tummy Tuck

What Is a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck procedure, also called abdominoplasty, is a surgical treatment that removes excess skin and tissue, as well as repairs the abdominal muscles (diastasis repair). Just like with liposuction, we treat areas that do not respond to diet and exercise. Excess skin is just that….excess skin.

No amount of exercise and dieting will remove it. We often pair this service with liposuction to create a beautifully shaped stomach. Dr. Beverly Fischer and her team have been performing these procedures for over 20 years and employ the safest, most effective methods available.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Are you frustrated with a stomach that won’t go flatter, no matter how much you work your abs and diet? Do you have loose skin from a pregnancy or massive weight-loss? Often our tummies refuse to retract back to where they were before we had children or simply lost significant weight.

If you had a baby and are experiencing a bloated look, where your muscles stretched or separated from pregnancy, a tummy tuck is a great option to remove that little beach or basketball in your belly. If so, a tummy tuck procedure can address these issues and create or recreate the silhouette you’ve yearned for.

What to Expect

How to Prepare

At the consultation, Dr. Fischer will review your medical history and discuss your specific goals.

Pre-Operative Appointment

Three weeks prior to your tummy tuck procedure, you’ll come to our offices to sign consent forms and receive highly specific pre- and post-operative instructions.

Date of the Procedure

For a tummy tuck surgery, we’ll take your “before” photos and then you will meet our anesthesiologist, who will explain their process and plan. Dr. Fischer will then come in to “mark you up” with a marker according to her plan for you that day. You will then walk back to the surgical suite and our team will get you prepped for surgery by connecting you to the monitors and inserting your IV. Then we will administer general anesthesia, and Dr. Fischer will remove excess tissue and sculpt your abdomen to your specifications, using the latest equipment designed for this procedure. Drains will be placed and will remain for one week (you will not be able to take a shower until these drains are removed).

Afterward, we’ll make you comfortable with a compression garment designed to help you heal faster. You’ll be able to go home that day, and any discomfort can be treated with prescription medication.

Recovery

After 2 Days - 2 Weeks

Your drains will be removed at the end of the first week and you can take that long-awaited shower! You’ll be able to return to work at some point in this time period, depending upon the extent of the surgery. You’ll likely experience a good bit of swelling and bruising, but that will improve over time. Make sure that you’re getting enough rest and avoid strenuous activity for the first 1-2 weeks. Keep wearing your compression garment for several weeks.

After 1-2 Months

You’ll notice a big difference in swelling, although it can continue for about 6 months or more. You can resume your normal routine, including more strenuous activity.

Don’t worry if you gain a few pounds in the future – your abdomen will always maintain its flat, tightened appearance. Your shape will be more proportional and aesthetically pleasing, and your clothes will look and fit better.

Cost

A tummy tuck procedure will vary in cost from person to person, and depends on the patient's goals. To learn more about tummy tucks and the cost of your unique experience, please schedule a consultation.
