BioTe as an Osteoporosis Treatment - Dr. Beverly Fischer - Timonium, MD

Hormonal treatment is continuously being used to address many health challenges being faced by patients. Hormonal treatments enable patients to regain natural energy and to address issues such as weight gain, mood swings and a general lack of focus. BioTe is a form of hormone replacement therapy that is used to address weight gain, osteoporosis and heart disease. More specifically, BioTe is a form of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). This means that it uses hormones that are identical in molecular structure to those that are within the body, leading to more useful results and fewer side effects.

BioTe is particularly useful at treating osteoporosis, because it leads to higher levels of testosterone and estrogen in the body. The increased concentration of these 2 hormones prevents the bones from loosing their density and mass.

What is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a progressive bone disease that leads to decreased mass and density of the bones. It is primarily caused by low levels of estrogen and testosterone in the body.

The absence of these hormones leads to a lower bone turnover, where old and worn out bone tissue is not replaced by new healthier tissue. The activity of osteoblasts (the cells that build new bone) is therefore limited.

Osteoporosis also affects men

Osteoporosis traditionally affected women at the post-menopause stage, but it becoming an increasing health concern in men as well. In fact, a recent study showed that men are twice as likely to pass away from osteoporosis effects than men.

When the bones lose their density, patients experience a stooped posture, back pain due to a weaker spine, and increased susceptibility to bone fractures.

How BioTe can help with Osteoporosis

Because BioTe is a form of natural bio-identical hormone treatment, it is effective at increasing hormone concentrations in the body (specially estrogen and testosterone). And because its components are bio-identical, your body won’t be able to distinguish between the artificially induced hormones and the natural hormones that are present in your body.

Hormones induce the growth of bones

When BioTe introduces hormones within your body, they begin to work towards producing new bone tissue. Estrogen works by decreasing bone re-absorption and testosterone helps to build new bone.  When the levels of these hormones are kept at the required level, the body can continue to produce healthy bones.

In addition, hormones lead to increased energy levels in patients. A more active person maintains a healthier body and healthier bone tissues due to the increased personal activity.

BioTe bio-identical hormone drugs can be combined with weight-bearing exercises and nutritional supplements in order to obtain good bone health. Studies published in the American Journal of OB/GYN have shown the effectiveness of testosterone at building the bones.

According to the study, testosterone replacement led to a four-fold increase in bone density as compared to other synthetic hormone choices. In fact, bio-identical hormone therapies resulted in an 8.3% increase in bone density in patients.

Other benefits of BioTe

The effectiveness of BioTe as a form of hormone replacement therapy has made it useful for many different applications. In addition to boosting the health of the bones, it also leads to increased energy levels among patients, improved sex drive, and relief of depression and anxiety.

BioTe pellets are also quickly absorbed by the body, where the cells can begin to benefit from the introduction of the hormones. The pellet form of BioTe is placed in the tissues beneath the skin or in the buttocks region, where they immediately become useful to the cells.
