The neck is often the first place to show early signs of aging. The neck skin can start to sag, wrinkle, and make you look older than you feel. That’s where board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Fischer and her team come in. If you’re struggling with neck laxity, we’ll build a tailored treatment to meet your aesthetic needs.
Understanding Neck Laxity
Neck laxity, also referred to as loose skin on the neck or “turkey neck,” often shows up as loose, crepey, or sagging skin in the neck area. It can be caused by a number of factors, including aging, excess sun exposure, reduced collagen and elastin production, and certain lifestyle or environmental factors, like smoking or weight loss.
Skin in the neck area is especially vulnerable to sagging because of its thin structure. Luckily, with treatment, you can turn back the clock and smooth and tighten the skin for a more youthful appearance.
Who is Affected by Neck Skin Laxity?
Almost anyone can be affected by neck laxity, especially after the age of 40, when collagen and elastin production reduce, sun exposure takes its toll, weight fluctuations occur, and poor lifestyle choices can make themselves known. Neck laxity can affect men and women alike, and it typically starts in your 30s, but becomes more obvious and noticeable in your 40s and 50s. The thin skin in the neck area also makes it much more susceptible to sagging and wrinkles.
Treatments for Neck Laxity
At the Advanced Center for Plastic Surgery, we offer a number of different surgical and non-surgical treatments for neck laxity. Depending on the results you’re looking for, Dr. Fischer will build a customized treatment plan to ensure you achieve the more youthful appearance you desire.
Neck Lift
A neck lift is a highly effective surgical procedure for neck laxity. It was designed specifically to deal with sagging skin, crepey skin, and muscle banding. By removing excess skin and fat, smoothing the skin, and releasing and tightening underlying muscles, Dr. Fischer can give you the beautiful and younger-looking appearance you’re searching for. The whole procedure can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.
Laser Treatments
Laser treatments can also be highly effective at addressing neck laxity. By heating the deep layers of the skin, the treatment increases collagen production to tighten sagging skin and improve the texture and firmness of the skin. How many laser treatments you need will depend on the results you’re looking for and your concerns.
Microneedling
Microneedling uses very fine needles to make micro-punctures in the skin. By damaging the skin, the process stimulates collagen production, increases cell turnover, and improves your overall skin quality. It can also increase the firmness of your skin and address many of the most common neck laxity concerns, including sagging skin and wrinkling. Most patients need 4-6 treatments for optimal results.
Dermal Fillers
If you’re struggling with mild to moderate neck laxity, dermal fillers can be a great way to quickly and easily address your concerns. With just a few simple injections, you can restore volume, stimulate collagen production, and plump the skin. They can address lines and wrinkles and you’ll see results instantly.
