You are considering a breast augmentation and you have questions. It is natural to have questions and we are here to help. We’ve compiled a list of the top 10 questions we get about breast augmentations procedures:
1. What are breast augmentation procedures?
A breast augmentation procedure involves using breast implants or fat transfer to increase the size of your breasts. Types include inserting new breast implants, exchanging existing breast implants, having a breast lift or a combination of breast implant exchange with a lift.
2. Who is a good candidate for a breast augmentation?
A good candidate includes anyone who needs to restore breast volume lost after weight loss or pregnancy or someone looking to achieve a more rounded breast shape or improve natural breast size asymmetry.
3. How can I assess the best breast implant for my augmentation?
Our experts will make sure your breasts look as natural as possible, no matter what you choose for the implant. There are two options: moderate plus or high profile. Moderate plus is best for anyone that wants larger breasts but still have a natural sloped look. High profile is best for anyone looking to have voluptuous breasts and show more cleavage. All breast implant types and sizing are discussed at your consultation with your plastic surgeon. Also, explore the differences between saline and silicone implants.
4. Will a breast augmentation increase my risk of breast cancer?
No. While it is true that women with breast implants have a slightly increased, but still extremely low risk of developing Anaplastic Large-cell Lymphoma, that is not due to the augmentation and ALCL is not connected to breast cancer.
5. Should I wait until I am done having children before getting a breast augmentation?
6. Can I breastfeed after a breast augmentation?
Yes! Most women can still breastfeed perfectly fine after breast augmentation!
7. Is a breast augmentation reversible?
Yes, breast augmentation is reversible. However, there are other factors to consider. Be sure to consult a plastic surgeon for more information. You may be happy with a breast implant revision.
8. Will I lose feeling or sensation in my nipple area after a breast augmentation?
You may lose the sensation in your nipple temporarily after a breast augmentation. If the feeling does not return, you may want to consult with your plastic surgeon.
9. What should I expect during a breast augmentation recovery?
Recovery is fairly simple. Your breasts will be wrapped in gauze and an elastic bandage, aka recovery bra, to help with swelling as well as support. You will typically be discharged after you are stable, which is about 1 to 2 hours after returning to your room from the procedure.
10. What bra should be worn after a breast augmentation?
Immediately following your surgery, a recovery bra is necessary for healing and support. After recovery, here is a guide to help you choose the best bra for your new breasts. Also, if you live in warmer climate or summer is approaching, pick the best swimsuit for your new breasts.
