Facelift

What Is a Facelift?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that makes a tremendous difference by taking years off your face through small changes. Dr. Beverly Fischer, a leading Baltimore cosmetic and plastic surgeon, will tighten the skin of the face, removing excess tissue and tightening facial muscles. Incisions are inconspicuous, making the scars virtually invisible. Our facelift procedure is designed to create the look you’ve always wanted without the painful and cumbersome recovery process inflicted by a traditional plastic surgery facelift.

We don’t just tighten your skin. By taking care to sculpt the muscle structure itself with minimally invasive techniques for a fast recovery, we’ll help you reveal your fresh and beautiful inner self. This is different from other facelift procedures

Reasons to Consider

A facelift or a mini facelift is the core procedure for facial rejuvenation, but you can also package other popular treatments like injectables and dermal fillers, resurfacing lasers, chemical peels or eye lifts (blepharoplasty) for a whole face refresh and maintaining your youth.

Is a Facelift Right for You?

If you’ve been subject to the effects of gravity, the sun and many years of living life to the fullest, your face may sag and make you look older than you are. Your skin loses its elasticity, so you may have excess skin as well, causing jowls and dropped cheeks. Wrinkles and other creases become more prominent.

If you’re not happy with your appearance, a facelift is a sensible and easy way to address these changes. If you decide you’re not ready for a facelift yet, we offer many other options to refresh and reboot your look.

Generally, we treat patients who are seeking a more youthful appearance. Our typical patient is 50+, but we are happy to work with anyone who would like to achieve a younger look.

Benefits of a Facelift

We’ve perfected the facelift procedure to maximize your transformation and minimize recovery time. Our safe and refined method means that you won’t need to undergo general anesthesia and suffer the aftereffects—and with our flawless technique, you’ll experience nominal bruising as well. Many of our patients also enjoy these benefits:

  • A quicker recovery time
  • A faster but perfected technique
  • Natural-looking results
  • A more cost-effective procedure
  • Less risk
  • A no general anesthesia option

General anesthesia is available for patients that feel more comfortable being less aware during surgery.

What to Expect

From the moment you walk through our doors until you’re ready to put your best face forward in the world, we love to pamper you. Our relaxing and inviting space has been designed to offer a spa-like experience, with a soothing environment and an unhurried vibe to get you ready to show off your refreshed look.

How to Prepare

Facelift surgeries, or rhytidectomies, are relatively simple outpatient procedures that consider all tissue levels, including the skin, muscle, and soft tissue. Dr. Beverly Fischer is an experienced plastic surgeon who is an expert at sculpting your face to achieve a beautiful, natural look. She has performed more than 500 facelifts, which is more than most cosmetic surgeons complete in their lifetimes. Facelift surgery before and after pictures can be dramatic and the results are truly life-changing. At your facelift consultation, Dr. Fischer will discuss your specific goals.

Pre-Operative Appointment

About three weeks prior to your facelift procedure, you’ll come to our offices to sign consent forms and receive pre- and post-operative instructions.

Date of the Procedure

For our facelift procedure, we’ll take your before photos and then Dr. Fischer will come mark up the area according to your goals and her plan for you that day. You will then walk back to the surgical suite and our team will get you prepped for surgery by connecting you to the monitors and inserting your IV.

Then, we will administer either local or general anesthesia. If you choose general anesthesia, you will meet with our anesthesiologist who will explain their process and plan. If you choose local anesthesia, you will first take a gentle sedative an hour before surgery to calm and relax you before walking back to the onsite operating room.

Dr. Fischer will perform the facelift procedure using cutting-edge technology and a perfected technique. You’ll be able to go home that day, but you will need a caretaker to drive you to and from the practice. We also recommend having a family or friend around to assist for the first three days after surgery. Any discomfort can be treated with prescription medication provided at your pre-op appointment.

Recovery

First 24 hours

You will go home wearing a large head dress and will have two drains. Both of these will be removed the next morning after your surgery date.

Week 1

The head dress will be replaced with a much more comfortable jaw bra that you can remove when you take a shower. You will wear this jaw bra 24-7 for the entire first week.

You’ll be feeling more comfortable after about three days, and most swelling and bruising will have subsided by seven days. Make sure that you’re getting enough rest to avoid strenuous activity for the first one to two weeks.

Week 2

The sutures will be removed and you now will only wear your jaw bra at night.

You can resume your normal routine, including more strenuous activity. We can discuss continuing enhancing treatments if desired to keep your skin looking its best.
