Liposuction

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a procedure that improves your body’s appearance by removing fat deposits. It’s not an alternative to diet and exercise and does not produce dramatic weight loss – but it removes pockets of fat that don’t respond to those methods. It often accompanies other procedures, such as a tummy tuck, for best results.

Dr. Beverly Fischer and her Baltimore cosmetic surgery team have been helping to shape beautiful thighs, buttocks, abdomens, hips and chins for decades.

Reasons to Consider

Benefits of Liposuction

Liposuction is a relatively simple outpatient procedure that will likely focus on one or several areas of your body. After inserting a dilute numbing solution, Dr. Fischer will expertly remove the fatty tissue by using a cannula tube (and sometimes power-assisted cannulas and/or ultrasonic heat). She’s a fellowship-trained plastic surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery and can beautifully sculpt your body for an attractive, seamless look that is more proportional and natural. Liposuction before and after pictures can be dramatic and the results are life-changing for your mental and physical health.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Do you have stubborn fat in your abdomen, thighs, buttocks, chin or elsewhere that just doesn’t seem to budge, despite your best efforts to exercise, eat right and lose the weight?

Sometimes you cannot remove these fat deposits without surgery. If you’re close to your recommended weight but need help reaching this goal, liposuction can help you slim these spots down to size.

What to Expect

How to Prepare

At the consultation, Dr. Fischer will review your medical history and discuss your specific goals.

Pre-Operative Appointment

Three weeks prior to your liposuction procedure, you’ll come to our offices to sign consent forms and receive very specific pre- and post-operative instructions.

Date of the Procedure

For liposuction, we’ll take your “before” photos and then you will meet our anesthesiologist, who will explain their process and plan. Dr. Fischer will then come in to “mark you up” with a marker according to her plan for you that day. You will then walk back to the surgical suite and our team will get you prepped for surgery by connecting you to the monitors and inserting your IV.  Then we will administer either local or general anesthesia, depending upon the objectives, and Dr. Fischer will perform the liposuction procedure using the safest and most up-to-date equipment, designed for this treatment.

Afterward, we’ll make you comfortable with a compression garment designed to help you heal faster. You’ll be able to go home that day, and any discomfort can be treated with prescription medication.

Recovery

After 2 Days - 2 Weeks

You’ll be able to return to work at some point during this time period, depending upon the extent of the surgery. You’ll likely experience a good bit of swelling and bruising, but that will improve over time. You may even feel like you look worse at first, but you will greatly improve! Make sure that you’re getting enough rest and avoid strenuous activity for the first 1-2 weeks. Keep wearing your compression garment for several weeks.

After 1-2 Months

You’ll notice a big difference in swelling, although it can continue for 6 months or more. You can resume your normal routine, including more strenuous activity.

If you maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine, these results can be permanent. Any additional weight gain would be distributed throughout your body, instead of settling in the frustrating “pockets” like the notorious hips and thighs. Your shape will be more proportional and aesthetically pleasing, and your clothes will look and fit better.

Cost
