Our faces are subject to a lot of wear and tear. Not only do they get bombarded by sunlight, smog, and other environmental contaminants, but the delicate skin of our face is also affected by what we put into our bodies. The modern diet often includes a lot of harmful additives, which have a detrimental effect on our skin and overall health. On top of that, our faces spend a lifetime smiling, laughing, frowning, and generally getting pushed and pulled in every direction.

The end result can be wrinkles, sagging, scarring, and sun damage that leaves your face looking worse for the wear. We’re now more knowledgeable about the benefits of skincare and sunblock, but over time, your skin will age regardless. The good news is, there are treatments that can offer rejuvenating effects, and PRP can deliver incredible results, especially when paired with Vivace microneedling. What is PRP, and what benefits will you enjoy when you try it?

What Is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a product of your own blood. It is collected when a small sample of a patient’s blood is spun in a centrifuge, separating out the PRP from the red blood cells.

PRP is a natural source of growth factors, and has been shown to speed healing and stimulate collagen and elastin. It is frequently used as an injection to heal injuries to muscles, tendons, joints, and ligaments, likely because of the role platelets naturally play in healing, and is often used in sports medicine. Research is being done to determine other potential benefits, such as healing tissue following surgery or improving arthritis symptoms, but studies are still underway.

The major benefit of using PRP is that there is no risk of adverse patient reaction, since PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood. For the purpose of facial rejuvenation, PRP is typically paired with a microneedling treatments, like Vivace, rather than injections. This is because traditional injections simply aren’t plausible (as the PRP needs to cover a large surface area), but the PRP still needs to penetrate below the surface of the skin.

The Benefits of PRP with Vivace

Vivace, in and of itself, can be extremely beneficial to your skin. This advanced microneedling procedure involves going over the surface of the face with tiny microneedles that stimulate a natural healing response, increasing collagen production in order to plump and renew skin.

The result of this procedure alone could include reduction of pore size and imperfections, as well as a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. The skin will appear smoothed, tightened, and lifted. This treatment is frequently used to improve the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, and even stretch marks.

While PRP isn’t much use on skin’s surface, it delivers incredible benefits when paired with Vivace. Once the Vivace microneedling is complete, the PRP is applied to skin, where it is absorbed at the collagen level and begins stimulating an enhanced healing response. This ultimately results in evened skin tone, reduced signs of aging, and a general facial rejuvenation.
