Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the U.S. It claims the lives of over 40,000 women per year, and around 1 in 8 women can expect to be diagnosed with some form of breast cancer over their lifetime.

  1. What Is BioTE?
  2. Can BioTE Really Help Prevent Breast Cancer?
  3. Is BioTE Safe?

In 2022, an estimated 287,850 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. alone according to a study from BreastCancer.org.

Because of this, Dr. Beverly Fischer and the all-female staff at the Advanced Center For Plastic Surgery are dedicated to providing women with information about a supplement that can reduce their risk of developing breast cancer.

In this article, we’ll take a look at BioTE – an advanced type of Hormone Replacement Therapy that may help women fight back against growing breast cancer diagnoses.

What Is BioTE?

BioTE is a new innovation in the field of HRT. BioTE is a type of “bio-identical” hormone replacement therapy, or BHRT. Bioidenticals are hormones derived from plants and/or synthetically produced or altered to have a similar chemical structure to hormones produced by the body.

BioTE includes both estrogen (17 beta-estradiol, estriol, and estrone), as well as testosterone. Production of both of these hormones gradually decreases with age, and BioTE is effective at restoring these hormones back to premenopausal levels.

BioTE is administered in a unique “pellet” form. This “pellet” is implanted directly into the body, within the fatty tissue in the upper buttock area. The procedure is quick (less than 5 minutes), simple, and low on the pain threshold thanks to local anesthesia injected into the insertion area. The pellet implant allows BioTE to deliver a constant stream of hormones throughout the body for up to 4 months. You might be wondering what to expect after BioTE pellet insertion. Expect to feel minor discomfort at the area of insertion, however nothing that should impact your normal daily routine.

Can BioTE Really Help Prevent Breast Cancer?

Here’s the question – can BHRT products like BioTE function as a breast cancer prevention? The answer is “yes!”

Breast cancer is more common in women over the age of 40. This is when the production of testosterone slows in women – often decreasing by as much as 50%. In addition, BioTE can also be beneficial in balancing hormones in hysterectomy patients, men and women suffering from metabolic syndrome, and those with thyroid disorders. It can also help protect your bones, prevent the loss of muscle mass, and help mitigate common menopausal symptoms.

Is BioTE Safe?

BioTE is safe. Unlike traditional HRT – which can increase the risk of breast cancer and other diseases – BHRT products like BioTE have been shown to decrease the risk of breast cancer.

Because BioTE uses bio-identical hormones that are easily accepted by the body, there is a much lower risk of harmful side effects.

Why Isn’t BioTE Approved By The FDA?

The primary reason is simple – BioTE pellets are custom-made for each patient.

Traditional HRT therapy is FDA-certified because the production process is standardized. They are created in standard forms and in controlled, tightly-regulated doses.

However, BioTE pellets are crafted with the needs of each individual patient in mind. While this increases the effectiveness of treatment, it makes getting FDA approval difficult, because there is no “standard” approach to BioTE treatment.

That being said, it is important to find a plastic surgeon that is experienced and knowledgeable with administering BioTE. For more information, download our guide:
